Gerald K. Shiu, Ph.D.

Dr. Shiu, a veteran FDAer, received his B.S. in Pharmacy from National Taiwan University in 1972, M.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from West Virginia University in 1975, and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacokinetics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1978. He held a faculty position in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine for 5 years prior to joining FDA in 1984. He has served as Branch Chief of the Biopharmaceutics Research Branch and as Laboratory Director of the Generic Drugs Research and Product Quality Research Labs prior to his present position.

Dr. Shiu is the President of ACPA (1989-1990). He has served in many ACPA Committees since its inception including the Chairman of the International Affairs Committee he established in 1990. Professionally, he has served as expert consultant to the World Health Organization (WHO) and as adjunct professor, visiting Porfessor, and scientific advisor to several pharmaceutical institutes in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. Dr. Shiu's current research interests have focused mainly on evaluation of in vitro and in vivo product quality of pharmaceutical formulations and delivery systems, and product quality research of herb and botanicals. His other interests include practicingTai-Chi Chuan and designing homepage for his after work relaxation.
